June 2017

When the sun is coming out, there’s nothing better than going for a walk in the streets, as always, with my camera, ready from some street photography in Paris. I headed north not far from my neighboorhood in the 18th district there’s Montrmartre. Walking there between tourist is always interesting for photography. People act in an particular way when they discover a city. Their styles are really different. Sometimes couple coming to make a romantic trip, sometimes families for discovering and also some groups with guides.

What I saw this time and I focused a bit on it was how the people who lives from the tourisme activity. Waiters of restaurants and pubs or musicians who plays nice music to please the visitors, some others who do artistic performances. All these street artistes and professional who works with a lot of tourists are really interesting to capture while they work or while they have a break.

I walked thourgh the streets of Montmartre meeting tourist observing them taking pictures of them while their were sightseeing, taking selfies, looking for their position on a map for the old shcoolers. Or trying to find a spot with a WiFi connection. In Montrmartre it looks like you’re a village, actually it’s a village. But a certain kind of stores and I’m wondering why !?! opened there. Like Starbucks ! ok there’s no problem that they have a business opportunity. But come on guys when you travel are you tryinh to discover the typical restaurants or coffees of the city or country. Or your aim is to try all the Hard rock café / Mc Donalds / Starbucks of the world and to compare the taste ?

Back to the topic of street photography, all these scenes reminds me the work of Martin Parr – I’m not comparing his work to mine – Just that he caught these kind of scenes in his work about hoilidays.

La petite ceinture, the former railway around Paris

The Petite Ceinture is the former railway line, which once encircled Paris inside the boulevards des Maréchaux. It is disused since 1934. A kind of illicit pedestrian counterpart to the boulevard périphérique, the Petite Ceinture is one of Paris’s least well-guarded secrets, in both senses. Essentially a disused railway that loops around the city like a ‘little belt’.

I’ve entered it from the park of “Les buttes chaumont” north of Paris. This entrance was not listed on the websites who’re talking about it. But my friend found an interesting map showing all the entrance and it was really accurate !  “La-petite-ceinture” Is a beautiful walk from where you can discover Paris from antoher point of view.

Canal de l’Ourcq from la petite ceinture

I arrived to the bridge who’s linking the dock of “Quai de la Marne” to the other side “Quai de l’Oise” I’ve felt like I was in antoher dimension. This side of the bridge when you’re on “la petite ceinture” is behind a big impassable fence. People were starring at me like : “how did you got there man !” The point of view in interesting from there. But I didn’t want to stay longer, to not atract too much eyes on me. It was my first time there, just had my 50mm on my camera enough for a spotting walk.

A walk around Rosa Parks

We got out with my friends from Rosa Parks the new train station in the north of Paris, a good spot where to make a break and to drink some iced coffee. The style of the buildings is original, moderne and colorfull.

Jazz festival at the Flea market of Saint-Ouen

Since 1870, the Flea Market has grown to become the most beautiful granary in the world: a territory of 9 hectares, 15 markets, 2000 merchants, 2 million visitors. With a unique atmosphere and a captivating cultural image, this intersection, full of history, is capable of generating new spin-offs for all its actors: antique dealers, second-hand dealers, restaurateurs, craftsmen, artists , Merchants of nine, biffins, residents … I’ve been there to see how the Jazz festival which is sponsored by Didier Lockwood.
