Une nuit à Reeperbahn

St.Pauli – Hambourg (traduction en cour)

If you’re visiting Hamburg, there are many things to do by day, but by night there’s only one, Reeperbahn ! It’s located in the Sankt Pauli area, it’s a big avenue surrounded by bars, clubs, strip clubs, sex shops, brothels and other similar businesses. In the early 1960s, The Beatles (who had not yet become world-famous) played in several clubs around the Reeperbahn, including the Star-Club, Kaiserkeller, Top Ten (Reeperbahn 136) and Indra. Stories about the band’s residencies, onstage and offstage antics are legendary, Famously John Lennon is quoted: “I might have been born in Liverpool – but I grew up in Hamburg”.

All those things might tell you how the Reeperbahn is, I was advised to not go there with my camera. Not suitable for this kind area. I took off the grip of my D700 put the 50 mm on without the metal protection I’m used to have on it, it was barely fitting inside my jacket. Then walked there, my curiosity took me in all the small streets, even the one which is forbidden to women…

After a pizza I’ve been in a pub called The Academy. A band was playing a good classic rock, people dancing, drinking, having fun. The atmosphere was really friendly. It’s really pleasant to be in this kind of pub, feeling that you’re in right place at the right moment and that nothing else matters. Stayed there until 6am not feeling tired at all even if after a week of walking around Hamburg, was my last night in Hamburg but not the least.
