Under the rythme of  Zaffa / Dabke

After the portrait photography sessions in the streets of Paris the time came for the dinner and partying with the family. We had 30 min left, we took time to breathe a bit. The programme was about making an entrance with a Zaffa / Dabke band, kind of procession.  First the groom with his brothers and father. Then afterwards the bride on the arm of her father. It’s been really intense, wasn’t expecting so much loudness from the percussion during the wedding march, making all the guests moving under the beats. It was beautiful to catch the movement, even if there’s no sound on pictures, the lighthning effect makes it closer to the atmosphere we had there.

I met one Yvan, the guy who was in charge of the video it’s always pleasant to meet kind of a colleague when you shoot a wedding. we took a break at the same time to have dinner with tasty Lebanese food on the buffet, hummus, falafel and Baba Ganush where there for giving us some energy to last longer during the party time and to not miss any moment of it !

Algerian wedding in Paris

In early September 2018 I was the photographer of an Algerian wedding in Paris. Two of my charming compatriots were celebrating their union in the city of lights with the presence of their families and friends. By celebrating a secular civil wedding then in a second time the religious ceremony called “The fatiha” or “El-fatiha“.

I was delighted that a couple of my compatriots booked me as their photographer. For having made the wedding photography of several couples of friends my customer network has developed a lot, thanks to word of mouth. This is how the touched my first costumers, most of them were an eastern clientele more specifically Algerian. Not that it is communitarian, but just that couples prefer to take someone who understands some social codes and key moments of the process to not miss anything. For having lived in Algeria twenty-five years I had time to get into this or my culture. Of course not in the image or a stereotype that we could haveon an oriental wedding.

When you hire a photographer for your wedding, you always ask your entourage first, so  this is how it happened for me to get booked this time again.

I was pleasantly surprised by the presence of a trouppe of “Dakka Marrakchia”  that are doing a rhytmic music with percussion and vocals in a form of ritual and folkloric way. It’s typical of the Moroccan city of Marrakech. It’s an art straddling the religious incantation and the most frenetic African trance.

I will get back with another blog post and some pictures work that I will realize in a few months for a Lebanese wedding in Paris. I let you see the pictures below while waiting. Tchuss !
