Projects & Stories
Every photographer has a unique message to convey, whether to their audience or to society. Through the lens, stories unfold, narratives that reflect human experiences, social realities, and cultural nuances. For me, this message often emerges organically, inspired by the people I meet, the places I explore, and the communities I observe.
Sometimes, it’s a conversation over coffee, a chance encounter while traveling, or simply witnessing a compelling moment that sparks the desire to document a story. Many of my photography projects & stories are rooted in curiosity, starting with a single observation or interaction. Often, serendipity plays its part, being in the right place at the right time and meeting the right people to uncover meaningful narratives.
A Testament to Social Contribution
One of the most significant and challenging projects & stories I’ve ever undertaken is the #Hebammenprojekt (The Midwifery Project). This endeavor was born out of a desire to highlight the social contributions of midwives in Germany. Through this project, I reached out to midwives across the country, shadowing them during their daily duties and capturing the essence of their work in cities large and small.
This project was unlike anything I had done before. It had no set timeline, no fixed budget, and no sponsorship. It was entirely self-funded and driven by my passion for storytelling. Over countless hours and across numerous locations, I documented midwives as they supported mothers, brought new lives into the world, and navigated the immense challenges of their profession.
The Midwifery Project is not just about showcasing their resilience and dedication; it’s also a reflection on the critical role midwives play in the fabric of society. By focusing my lens on their work, I aimed to tell a story of care, connection, and social impact. You can read more about this powerful journey in the section below dedicated to The Midwifery Project.
Exploring Social Stories Through Photography
Beyond The Midwifery Project, I’ve delved into other photography projects that explore the intersection of culture, community, and social issues. These stories are listed on this page for you to discover.
For instance, one unforgettable project took me to an abandoned sanitarium, where I spent the night with a stunt team. Together, we transformed the derelict space into a fiery stage for their daring performances, creating a visual narrative that blended art, risk, and resilience.
In another project, I found myself in Warsaw, walking through the hauntingly beautiful Jewish cemetery on a rainy Sunday morning. The atmosphere was profound, steeped in history and emotion. Through my lens, I sought to capture the silent stories of loss, memory, and cultural legacy that lingered in that space.
Trans’n’Danse: Movement as a Universal Language
One of my ongoing projects is Trans’n’Danse, which explores the transformative power of dance as a universal language. This project follows dancers and yogis as they express their inner worlds through movement, blending personal growth with artistic exploration.
Through this journey, I’ve documented workshops, rehearsals, and performances, from Sufi dance to contemporary forms. Dance becomes a medium for self-discovery, healing, and connection, offering a profound reflection on the human spirit. The Trans’n’Danse project aligns with my passion for cultural storytelling and social photography, capturing the interplay between individuals and their communities.
Capturing the Lives of Artisans, Protesters, and Everyday Heroes
My work often highlights the lives of everyday heroes, artisans, workers, and individuals who shape the world around them in meaningful ways. I’ve documented the craftsmanship of a shoemaker, the dedication of a swimming pool builder, and the artistry of those who pour their heart into their trades. These projects and stories celebrate the beauty of skilled labor and its social value.
I’ve also been drawn to moments of social and environmental activism. My lens has captured protests in Paris against police brutality, demonstrations advocating for climate change, and the voices of medical staff demanding better working conditions after the first wave of COVID-19. These moments reflect collective resilience and the drive for social justice, shedding light on issues that resonate deeply with communities around the world.
Storytelling Through Photography: A Window to Social Realities
Every project I undertake is part of a larger journey, one that seeks to explore human stories, social themes, and cultural connections. Photography is not just a tool for documenting life; it’s a medium for amplifying voices, fostering understanding, and sparking conversations about the issues that matter most.
I invite you to explore these projects and stories on this page. From the raw energy of protests to the quiet dedication of artisans, from the transformative power of movement to the resilience of midwives, these stories offer a window into the complexities and beauty of our shared humanity.
